The Torah portion of this week, Parashat Ha Shavua, is Nitzavim…

Nitzavim means “Stand up.”

The entire Jewish Congregation stood up to listen to what G-d had to tell them.

They heard some of the most fundamental principles of the Jewish faith:

Jewish books

The UNITY OF ISRAEL: “You stand today, all of you, before the L‑rd your G‑d: your heads, your tribes, your elders, your officers, and every Israelite man; your young ones, your wives, the stranger in your gate; from your wood-hewer to your water-drawer.”

The FUTURE REDEMPTION: Moses warns of the exile and desolation of the Land that will result if Israel abandons G‑d’s laws, but then he prophesies that in the end, “You will return to the L‑rd your G‑d . . . If your outcasts shall be at the ends of the heavens, from there will the L‑rd your G‑d gather you . . . and bring you into the Land which your fathers have possessed.”

The PRACTICALITY OF THE TORAH: “For the mitzvah which I command you this day, it is not beyond you, nor is it remote from you. It is not in heaven . . . It is not across the sea . . . Rather, it is very close to you, in your mouth, in your heart, that you may do it.”

An apparent FREEDOM OF CHOICE: “I have set before you life and goodness, and death and evil: in that I command you this day to love G‑d, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments . . . Life and death I have set before you, blessing and curse. And you shall choose life.”

I have purposefully added “apparent” freedom of choice because we, not only Jews but all human beings, are supposed to choose LIFE.  Or else.

IT is all about another key word in life, that is part of G-d’s Universe:  SEDER.

Look around.  ALL is based on SEDER/ORDER.

From the galaxies to our own bodies, all is in perfect composition, and by G-d’s Will they work impeccably.

However, as nothing and nobody is perfect, all systems fail at one point.

There is only One Perfect Entity:  G-d.

That is why we are expected to follow the SEDER HE has established of us, freely choose it, be inspired by G d’s Words and G d’s Will…

Following His Commandments is key to our success and sadly this world has forgotten that while they may negate the Creator of the Universe, He is Permanent and will go nowhere.

Throughout History, He has sent His Punishments to those who have dared disobey and disregard Him.

Woe to you oh world, for the day G-d will send His Wrath.

It will be as it is said in one of the Psalms:  “For one day I will stretch my arm and you will not know what happened.”
